With 30+ combined event experience between them, Gill & Alex have a wealth of knowledge within the industry and rekindled their love of planning special days with their own here at the pub in May 2022. Their number 1 ethos has to this day remained the same, it is your day and as such should be your choices, they are just their to guide, advise and ensure your day is 100% perfect and as you always dreamed. 


We do not have a license for marriages at the pub, but we can recreate a ceremony and blessing here. Reception, sit down/or not food ideas, and evening parties are all possible.

Total per person: £75.00

Possible extras: outdoor blessing in the garden, hire of marquee to go in car park for meal or evening reception, exclusive use of the pub, Evening buffet, breakfast or food day prior to after. 

1 / Bucks Fizz drinks reception on arrival in the garden

2 / Sit down 3 course menu (see below for sample menu ideas) in the pub. NB price guide on sample menus is not applicable on this sample package as is included in the price.
3 / 1/3 bottle of wine per person during the meal
4 / Glass of fizz for toasts during speeches per person

'Our tapas favourites'; sent out as if you were in a tapas restaurant, in random order, as and when ready.


  • Ember baked camembert, toasted croutes

  • 'Shot-gun' chicken bites; our own homemade shot-gun sauce coated fried chicken pieces

  • Cider baked in Sanford Orchards Devon cider, bread

  • Grilled halloumi, Baba Ganoush, roasted peppers

  • Grilled shell-on prawns, Chimichurri

  • Cherry-smoked duck breast, fig, pomegranate, orange

  • Salmon gravlax, lime

  • Seasoned fries

  • Serrano ham & Manchego board, Guindilla peppers, olives

A Black River Inn extravaganza:

To begin:

  • Homemade ricotta; with local cows milk, freshly baked bread


The main event: 

  • Porchetta; Italian-style, slow roasted pork


Served with:

  • Local new season roasted potatoes with rosemary  & garlic

  • Local leaves & vinaigrette

  • Caprese; local tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil & extra virgin olive oil

  • Freshly baked focaccia

  • Peperonata; fire roasted peppers, olive oil

  • Black River pickled cucumbers & radish; thinly sliced cucumber & radish, with Black River apple cider vinegar

  • Sumac red cabbage


To finish:

  • Honey panna cotta with a thyme crumb
